PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF PERCARBOXYLIC ACID

An hydrous organic solns. of percarboxylic acids are prepd. by reacitng aq. H2O2 solns. with water-miscible carboxylic acids in presence of a catalyst and an organic solvent permitting the continuous removal of water from the reaction medium of azeotropic distillation. The novel feature is that water is injected continously at the head of the azeotropic distillation column during the mt part of the reaction, in amts. such that the liquid reflux has a compsn. approximating that of the vapors of the heteroaceotrope water-organic solvent.
