PURPOSE:To improve the positioning accuracy for a steel material and to charge surely the steel material grasped without inclining in a heating furnace of the type open on the lower side by providing a steel material charger consisting of specific steel material supporting plates, hearths, steel material clamps and a lifting device to said furnace. CONSTITUTION:The open port on the lower side of a heating furnace 2' is opened by moving horizontally a pair of combtooth-shaped hearths 11, 11' projected with hearth parts 13 and 13', 16 and 17, 17' meshing with each other. On the other hand, a steel material 5 is imposed on supporting parts 34, 34' positioned to project from a base plate 29 between the hearth parts of the hearth 11' and is moved by grasping member pairs 38, 38' facing each other of a clamping device 27 so that the steel material 5 is held in a way as not ot incline in the central position. The plate 29 is then raised by a lifting device 28 and the material 5 is charged into the furnace 2 and is then stopped, then the hearth 11' is closed and is stopped when the front end of the hearth part contacts with a furnace wall 20. The member pairs 38, 38' are then opened and when the plate 29 is lowered, the material 5 is transferred to the hearth part of the hearth 11'. Only the plate 29 descends and is stopped in the home position. The hearth 11 is closed and the lower side of the furnace 2' is hermetically closed. The material 5 is supported by supporting plates 21, 21' in this stage. |
