PURPOSE:To improve the utilization factor of power converters, and to reduce ripple currents by turning a reactor ON-OFF in response to the number of the power converters operated. CONSTITUTION:When a power converter is driven by one voltage type inverter 12, both the first switch 32 and the second switch 33 connected to an output from the inverter 12 are closed, thus applying all output voltage to an AC motor. Consequently, the capacitance of one voltage type inverter can be utilized at its maximum. When the power converter is driven by two voltage type inverters 12, 22, first switches 32, 42 are closed and second switches 33, 43 are opened, thus inserting a reactor for inhibiting higher harmonic currents to outputs from each voltage type inverter. Accordingly, higher harmonic currents are suppressed, thus suppressing heat generation in the AC motor, then also restraining peak currents by a ripple. |
