PURPOSE:To enable an ink to be efficiently transferred even onto a transfer paper poor in smoothness, by applying an air pressure from the back side of a base film simultaneously with or immediately after heating by a thermal head. CONSTITUTION:When a heating part 11 corresponding to a printing part is operated to generate heat thereby melting an ink, the ink at the part in contact with a transfer paper 4 is adhered to a transfer paper 4. A thermal head 1 comprises a high-pressure chamber 7, into which high-pressure air is fed from an air pump through a hose 9. A slit form opening 8 is provided at the immediate downstream of the heating part 11 in the feeding direction of an ink sheet, and a pressure is exerted on an ink layer 52 through minute holes 51 of a base film 51. The ink melted at the heating part reaches the opening 8 before being solidified, receives the air pressure from the back side, and the ink not in contact with the transfer paper is separated from the base film 51 by the air pressure, and is transferred also onto recessed parts of the transfer paper. |
