BASE FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC PAPER AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PURPOSE:To permit the formation of a white pigment-contg. resin layer to the thinner layer without decreasing the hiding power thereof by providing the white pigment-contg. resin layer formed by dispersing a white pigment into a specific binder to one side of a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The white pigment-contg. resin layer formed by dispersing the white pigment into the binder contg. the polymer of an unstad. compd. contg. the hexacrylate ester of a dipentaerithritol alkylene oxide addition product is provided on at least on side of the substrate. The unsatd. compd. is polymerized by a later electron ray irradiation treatment to form the resin component in the white pigment-contg. resin layer. This resin functions as to lend water resistance to the base paper and as the binder for the white pigment. The formation of the white pigment-contg. resin layer is executed by preparing the coating liquid of the compsn. consisting of the above-mentioned binder component and white pigment and coating the coating liquid on the surface of the base paper. The ratio between the binder component and white pigment is preferably in a 3/1-1/9 range, more preferably in a 2/1-1/4 range.
