A complex of an immunogen and a carrier molecule, and a process for presenting the immunogen to mucosal epithelia of a vertebrate host for the purpose of inducing a systemic, cellular and/or mucosal immune response or reaction against the complex in the vertebrate host. The invention also provides processes for preparing the complex. The invention furthermore provides medicaments which comprise the complex as well as medicaments which additionally comprise regulatory molecules. The regulatory molecules provide an agent for selectively modulating the size and/or type of the immune reaction to the medicament complex. The invention provides agents for inhibiting sexual gland function in a mammal as well as for selectively modulating the cellular immune reaction to a complex according to the invention.
