发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL ELEMENT AND ITS DRIVING METHOD
摘要 PURPOSE:To provide two states, i.e. one stable state and a state in which the stable state changes into a semistable state by the impression of the threshold values of an impressed voltage value and a voltage impression time, to speed up the display of a motion picture, etc., and to improve the quality of a TV picture by using ferroelectric liquid crystal which has the stable state and semiconductor state. CONSTITUTION:Substrates 11 and 11' coated with a transparent electrode are arranged in parallel and ferroelectric liquid crystal, e.g. smetic liquid crystal is charged between those substrates 11 and 11' to constitute a liquid crystal element of cell structure. This liquid crystal element has a scanning electrode group 32 impressed with a scanning signal selectively and successively and a matrix electrode 31 impressed with an information signal selectively and successively. An electric field which exceeds the threshold values of the impressed voltage value and voltage impressed time is impressed to a picture element selected by the matrix electrode 31 to cause liquid crystal molecules to change from the stable state to the semistable state. Further, an electric field which is weaker than the threshold values is impressed to unselected picture elements to maintain the liquid crystal molecules in the stable state, thereby speeding up the display of a motion picture, etc.
