PURPOSE:To enable the discrimination of material quality by simple operation without leaving damage after discrimination, by measuring spontaneously generating potential by directly using a specimen as on electrode while using a conductive standard specimen such as a component known metal as the other one electrode. CONSTITUTION:In the discrimination of a specimen 1, the proper area of the specimen is at first treated using emery paper to not only remove oxide or a contaminant from the surface thereof but also to purify and activate said surface and, thereafter, filter paper 2 impregnated with a 1N sulfuric acid solution is applied to the treated area. A standard specimen 3 of which the surface was polished and activated using paper is superposed on the filter paper 2 and pressed under proper pressure so as not to generate contact inferiority to form an electric circuit. During this time, corrosive dissolving reaction due to 1N sulfuric acid is accompanied at the contact surface of the specimen 1 and the specimen 3 through the filter paper 2 to form a primary battery. Between these both electrodes, the electromotive force based on the different- kind electrode battery is generated and measured by a potentiometer 6. As a result, material quality can be discriminated by simple operation. |
