PURPOSE:To produce a carbon fiber having improved adhesivity to matrix material, easily, by applying a coating material to raw carbon fiber at an arbitrary stage before calcination stage, calcining the coated fiber and passing electric current directly to an electrolyte solution using the carbon fiber as the anode. CONSTITUTION:A coating material (preferably amorphous carbon precursor) is applied to a raw carbon fiber at an arbitrary stage before the calcination stage (e.g. spinning stage, combining stage, preliminary carbonization stage, etc.) in an amount to give a coating layer having a thickness of preferably 100Angstrom -0.5mu. The coated fiber is calcined and electric current is passed directly through an electrolyte solution using the carbon fiber as the anode to effect the surface-treatment of carbon fiber. |
