Feed device for a boiler using solid fuels such as coal, lignite, peat, wood, bark, sawdust, straw, giant reed, maize cobs, etc. This device is characterised in that the shape of the piston is such that it occupies the entire cross-section of the pipe with the minimum of clearance, and the piston emerges into the hearth just in the region of the grate on which combustion takes place, the shape of the piston also being such that it scrapes the grate with the minimum of clearance during its forward movement, and the piston is fitted with means for adjusting its stroke (such as end-of-stroke contact) such that the piston can stop firstly at the rear of the hopper feeding the fuel, secondly between the front of the hopper and the point of emergence in the hearth and thirdly between the point of emergence in the hearth and the end opposite the hearth. <IMAGE>
