Assisted-combustion method for fuels having a low calorific value such as lignite, peat, wood, bark, sawdust, agricultural by-products such as straw, maize cobs, giant reed, or household waste. This method is characterised in that a portion of the gases at the end of the combustion zone is taken off, in that they are partially cooled to a temperature between 300 DEG C and 400 DEG C and in that they are pushed through the fuel layer penetrating into the hearth with the aid of a suction exerted by a fan, these gases then being reintegrated into the hearth. <IMAGE>
