A motor 6 drives a first hollow cylinder 7 immersed in the fluid 5 in rotation at constant speed. A second cylinder 8, with the same axis, inside the first cylinder 7, and able to rotate freely, is driven at a speed which depends on the viscosity of the fluid 5. A toothed wheel 11 and a detector 12 allow measurement of the speed of the second cylinder 8. The invention applies to measuring the viscosity of motor vehicle engine oil, for example. <IMAGE>
