The present invention relates to a cash compartment, in particular for coin-operated apparatuses such as public telephones. According to the invention, the cash compartment comprises, in combination, an reinforced casing 100 integral with the apparatus and defining a cavity 102, a drawer mounted sliding on the apparatus shaped to be housed in the cavity and block off the opening contour of the latter, and locking means 300 interacting with stop means provided at the site of the rear wall of the drawer and switchable between a locking position in which they prevent the withdrawal of the drawer and a free position in which they allow the withdrawal of the drawer with respect to the apparatus. <IMAGE>
