Two blade heads (29, 30) can be displaced on a common framework (21) towards and away from a cable track (13), by drive means (25, 26). Each blade head is provided with at least one stripping blade (32, 33) and one cutting blade which is arranged at a distance therefrom. The blades (32, 33) of one blade head (29 or 30 respectively) interact with the corresponding blades on the other blade head (30 or 29 respectively) like shears. In order to simplify the maintenance and adjusting work for the device (18) which is used as a unit of a complete cable assembly machine, the framework (21) can pivot out of the cable track (13) with the blade heads (29, 30) and can be locked in the pivoted-out position. Alternatively, in addition, the blades (32, 33) of each blade head (29, 30) can be firmly clamped in a blade holder (54, 55) which, for its part, is firmly clamped, removably, on a retaining block (49, 50) which is firmly connected to the drive means (25, 26). <IMAGE>
