The support device has two jockey wheels (24) which are each mounted on a support axle (1, 2) arranged transversely to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The two support axles (1, 2) are pivoted at two bearing points (3, 4) so that each can swivel about an axis running parallel to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and are controlled by way of a spring element (5) combined with a damping element so that they can swing between a lowered support position and a raised rest position. In this way a reliable design of support device is obtained which is especially easy to operate, with greater security, compared to existing designs, against the vehicle tipping over. <IMAGE>
