PURPOSE:To reduce the volume of suction air passing through the upper section of a heat exchanger and reduce noise of the discharge air by providing a suction shielding section at a specified ratio of it to the whole area of a suction opening at the upper section of an air filter provided at the suction opening. CONSTITUTION:A shielding section 19a the area of which is about 1/7 of the total area of the suction opening of an air filter 19 is provided at the upper section, and the balance, about 6/7 is made a filter section 19b through which air can pass. If the shielding section 19a is larger and the ration is larger than 1/7, the noise is reduced, but the reduction in air flow volume is large, significantly reducing the performance of an air conditioner. Further, the value of noise reduction when the ratio is over 1/7 if smaller than when the nation is below 1/7. Accordingly in an air conditioner with central suction and discharge in the upper section the most advantageous air delivery performance can be obtained when the ratio of shielding is 1/7. |
