Whereas previously comparatively expensive machine-coated thin printing paper had to be used to achieve improved opacity of rotary printing products on thin printing paper, according to the invention it is proposed for thin printing paper to be printed on a rotary printing machine having a plurality of printing units to coat the web of thin printing paper fed to the rotary printing machine with a white covering layer from the first printing unit of said machine, which not only leads to a substantial cost-reduction, but surprisingly also to an improvement in the quality of the opacity of the printed product.
