For a passenger car and/or small transporter with front-mounted engine, a self-bearing chassis platform is disclosed which consists of box-shaped longitudinal carriers and transverse carriers, longitudinally and transversely located splashboards and of floor plates, is produced essentially from simply edged plates and has in total the following combination of assemblies: a dimensionally stable central part in the passenger region, a forwardly adjoining safety bearing unit for the drive assemblies and a rearwardly adjoining planar loading platform (Fig. 1). The self-bearing chassis can be self-propelled independently of the shape of the vehicle body and has a high degree of passive safety for the occupants. With the disclosed arrangement and design of the individual components and assemblies, flexible matching and assembly with the different engine variants and chassis variants and of different shapes of vehicle body and superstructure are achieved and short-term matching and kit production, which can be extended in stages, of the overall vehicle with a low degree of expenditure in terms of production technology is given. <IMAGE>
