A facsimile pick-up device comprises a linear array of photo-sensitive elements; when a limited region of a picture is scanned, only photosensitive elements corresponding to the region are used. In order to facilitate subsequent signal processing the number of photosensitive elements used should be equal to a power of 2. This is ensured by skipping some of the photosensitive elements evenly distributed along the length of array used-during scanning of the image. Figure 4 shows the effect obtained by skipping every third photosensitive element, whilst figure 3 shows the reproduction image which would be obtained if every photosensitive element were used. Distortion is avoided by reducing the number of lines scanned in the same ratio as the number of photosensitive elements skipped. <IMAGE> |
