PURPOSE:To reduce the rate of breaking of a mild steel wire rod and to always keep the electrical conductivity at more than a specified value by using C and Mn for regulating the strength, adjusting the composition to obtain the specified value of the electrical conductivity (calculated value) and limiting the cooling rate after winding. CONSTITUTION:Low-C steel consisting of <=0.15% C, <=0.03% Si, <=0.40% Mn, <=0.025% P, <=0.025% S, <=0.05% Cu, <=0.05% Ni, <=0.10% Cr, <=0.080% sol Al, <=40ppm N, the balance iron and inevitable impurities and having the electrical conductivity, rhoeq, satisfying the following equation is used; rhoeq (calculated value) (=13.3Si+6.66Mn+16.66P+10S+2.85Cu+2.5Ni+5Cr+11.2 sol Al)<=4.0. The steel having the composition is hot-rolled, then wound at 750-950 deg.C and cooled after winding at the cooling rate of 2-7 deg.C/sec. A steel wire having excellent drawability and conductivity can be obtained by this method. |
