A coordination complex is disclosed comprising a radionuclide selected from radioactive isotopes of Tc, Ru, Co. Pt and Re and an isonitrile ligand of the formula:
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="7" wi="27" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>where X is a lower alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, wherein R is selected from COOR' and CONR<Sup>2</Sup>R<Sup>3</Sup> where R<Sup>1</Sup> can be H, a pharmaceutically acceptable cation, or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R<Sup>2</Sup>, and R<Sup>3 </Sup>can be H, or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R<Sup>2</Sup> and R<Sup>3</Sup> can be the same or different. Kits that can be used to form these complexes are also disclosed.
