<p>PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive thermal head having long life, reduced in power consumption and enabled in high speed printing with a shortened manufacturing time, by converting a heat generating resistor and the conductive lead in the vicinity thereof with one nitride layer. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal head having a substrate 9, a heat generating resistor 8 formed on said substrate 9, a lead wire 7 supplying power to the heat generating resistor 8 and a protective layer 10 protecting the heat generating resistor 8 and the lead wire 7 in the vicinity thereof, the protective layer 10 is constituted of the nitride layer and the nitride of the protective layer 10 is one or more of nitride selected from NbN, ThN, BN, AlN, HfN, TiN and ZrN. The heat generating resistor 8 contains a metal and SiO2 and the metal of said resistor 8 comprises one or more of a metal element selected from Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, La, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Fe, Ni and Co, or an alloy consisting two or more kinds of said metals o an intermetallic compound consisting of two or more kinds of metals or a mixture consisting of two or more kinds of the metals element, the alloys or the intermetallic compounds. By this method, a thermal head wherein the life of the heat generating resistor and that of the protective film are long and high speed printing is enabled is obtained.</p> |
