PURPOSE:To enhance printing quality and the selection degree of freedom of an inking system and to improve space efficiency at the time of keeping, by constituting a printing apparatus of a first housing equipped with a printing element having a type and a drive means and a second housing equipped with a ribbon driving part and mounting one housing with respect to the other housing in a freely revolvable manner. CONSTITUTION:A change-over solenoid 50 is turned OFF and the upper side first engaging teeth 43 and upper side second engaging teeth of a tooth clutch 48 are released while the meshing of lower side first engaging teeth 45 with lower side second engaging teeth 46 is performed and a carriage 23 is fixed. The rotary power of an output shaft 26a is transmitted to a type wheel 29 through a drive gear 30 and the type 28 of the type wheel 29 performing printing is moved to a printing position. A hammer 31 imparts inmpact force to the back surface of the type 28 by the action of a solenoid 32 to perform printing. A rear part housing 9 is moved from a printable position to a stop position so that a front part housing 8 and the rear part housing 9 are almost on the same plane at the stop time of a typewriter. By this method, the height direction of the typewriter becomes short. |
