摘要 PURPOSE:To form a magnetic recording medium having good S/N without depending on environmental conditions by disposing a ferromagnetic metal and protective film on one face of a high-polymer substrate and disposing a vapor deposited film having cracks on the other face. CONSTITUTION:This recording medium has a high-polymer film 5, discontinuous films 6, 7 consisting of PVA, a thin ferromagnetic metallic film 8 and a lubricating layer 9 consisting of perfluoro octanoic acid formed by a vacuum deposition method. A partially oxidized film 10 of titanium which is formed by an electron beam vapor deposition method and has 0.1mum thickness is the vapor deposited layer having 100-300 pieces/cm cracks approximately perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of a tape. The cracks can be controlled by the temp. of a cylindrical can and conditions for introducing oxygen. The vapor deposited film of the cracked parts 13 are slightly warped upward. The much better effect than the effect predicted from the surface roughness is obtd. for the running performance by the effect of such shaped and because part of the lubricating layer 9 is migrated by the transfer to the cracked a parts when the medium is wound as a tape.
