PURPOSE:To pull up and roll down a solidified shell having a prescribed width and to prevent the cracking and wear of heat insulating refractory materials by disposing the heat insulating refractory materials respectively to both side faces in the lower part of water cooling rolls of which the lower parts are immersed in a molten metal and the roll surfaces on the end sides thereof thereby preventing the intrusion of the molten metal to said parts. CONSTITUTION:The lower part of a pair of the water cooling rolls 11 are immersed into the molten metal 13 in a molten metal vessel 12. The molded heat insulating refractory materials 14 are disposed to both side faces in the lower parts of the rolls 11 and the roll circumferential surfaces of the end sides thereof and are pressed to the end sides of the circumferential surfaces of the rolls apart at a prescribed width therefrom to prevent the intrusion of the molten metal 13. The materials 14 are stably installed in the molten metal 13 and is prevented from the cracking and wear by the thermal impact, by which the life thereof is extended. The solidified shell of the prescribed width between the materials 14 on the circumferential surfaces of the rolls 11 is pulled up and is rolled 16 to a thin sheet. The side faces of the materials 14 are prevented from being chipped by the solidified shell if the side faces, which face each other, of the materials 14 are inclined within 5 deg. toward the rotating direction of the rolls 11. |
