PURPOSE:To make the thickness of electrolyte holding matrix uniform to improve power generating performance by mixing a specified amount of the second silicon carbide powder having larger particle size than that of the first silicon carbide powder in an electrolyte holding matrix to the electrolyte holding matrix. CONSTITUTION:Catalyst layers 3 and 4 are formed on the facing surfaces of a hydrogen electrode 1 which is in contact with hydrogen serving as fuel gas on its back side and an air electrode 2 which is in contact with air serving as oxidizing gas on its back side. An electrolyte holding matrix 5 prepared by kneading phosphoric acid which serves as electrolyte and the first silicon carbide powder is placed between electrodes 1 and 2. A specified amount of the second silicon carbide powder having larger particle size than that of the forst silicon carbide powder is mixed to the matrix 5 and they are pressed. When the thickness of the matrix 5 is adjusted to 200mu, the second silicon carbide powder 6 having a particle size of about 200mu, the mixing ratio of the second silicon carbide powder to the first silicon carbide is about 1:300 by weight. |
