A cyclone which comprises a cylindrical shell with an inverted conical hopper below is claimed. A cylindrical exhaust duct leads from the lower end of the conical hopper. A gas supply duct extends tangentially into the cylindrical shell through which dust contg. gas is introduced. An exhaust gas duct is taken from the top of the shell, the lower end of which is enlarged to an oval or eggshaped section and penetrates the conical shell portion above the hopper. A side wall also projects into the cylindrical shell.
