PURPOSE:To realize an optical fiber which has the decreased wavelength dispersion over a wide frequency range by using respectively specific silica glass for a clad part, intermediate layer and core part and specifying the outside diameters of the respective parts and the specific refractive index difference between the core part and the intermediate layer. CONSTITUTION:The silica glass doped with at least one kind of germanium oxide IV or phosphorus pentoxide is used for the clad layer 2. The silica glass doped with F or F and phosphorus pentoxide is used for the intermediate layer 3 and the silica glass doped with germanium oxide TV is used for the core part 1. The outside diameter of the core part is specified to 7.4-8.5mum. The ratio between the outside diameter of the intermediate layer and the outside diameter of the core part is specified to 1.46-1.66. The specific refractive index difference of the core part is specified to 0.28-0.36% and the specific refractive index difference of the intermediate layer is specified to 0.45-0.65%. The wavelength dispersion for 1.3mum and 1.55mum wavelength is made zero by selecting the respective parameters in the above-mentioned manner, by which the wide- band optical fiber is realized. |
