PURPOSE:To allow a processor to confirm the correspondence between a connector and a connected adapter automatically by sending a connected connector number to the processor when an adapter is accessed from the processor. CONSTITUTION:Connectors in slots 4-7 are connected to the processor PC1 through a bus signal line 8 and some of adapters 14-19 which are numbered individually are connected to the connectors optionally. Physically characteristic numbers are assigned to the respective connectors and the adapters are accessed by the PC1 according to the program in a memory 2. When an adapter is connected to a connector, the adapter sends the number of the connector to which the adapter is connected to the PC1 through signal lines 9-12. When there is no response from the adapter within a specific time, a time-out monitoring part 3 judges that no adapter is connected to the connector and informs the CP1 of that through a time-out detection line 13. The PC1 confirm the correspondence between the returned connector number and adapter.
