The installation comprises a stacking machine 1 capable of placing the parcels 2 in the desired manner in each layer and of successively superposing the layers on a shaping and support device formed by a tray 4 carried by an elevating machine 5 which stretches sheets of plastic material and can stretch a sheet under the bottom layer and a sheet over the same bottom layer, at least one machine capable of stretching an upper sheet over the packet, a hot-air fan-assisted oven 11 for shrinking the sheets of plastic material and several transport devices 12, 13 for transporting the packet, carried by the tray 4, from one of the machines to the other, which machines are arranged one following the other, the tray in question comprising lateral parts in relief, between which machines the first layer of parcels, whose width is less than that of the upper layers, may be placed in order to support them, leaving a free space for the penetration of the forks 14 of an elevating device providing transport of the manufactured packet from the tray. <IMAGE>
