The invention relates to the treatment of household waste. It provides for the production of a fuel formed of compacted blocks of household waste having been subjected to a partial dessication converting them into a non-fermentable product. These blocks can be stored for a long period before being incinerated when mixed with untreated collected household waste. The invention applies especially to energy recovery of heat capable of being provided by the incineration of household waste. <IMAGE>
