Novel pyrochlores of formula Bi2-xMxB2O7-z comprise (A) oxidative combustion of M-carbonate, BO2, BiO2CO3 at 650≦̸C or the rmolysis temp. of BiO2CO3, (B) disperse a combustion prod. of (A) into dilute- aq. inorg. acid for prod. from dispersed media. M is selected from Cd, Cu, Pb, In, Ga, Ag and its mixt. ; B is selected from Ru, Ir or its mixt.; x is 0-0.5; z is 0-1. The mole ratio of Bi/B is 4:1.
