Removal of organic and/or colloidally dispersed components from water from which insoluble solids have been removed is effected by passing the water over a strongly basic macroporous anion-exchange resin (I) and a strongly acidic cation-exchange resin (II), where (I) and (II) are regenerated with the same alkaline regeneration soln. Pref. the water is contacted first with (I) and then with (II) e.g. arranged in layers in a fixed-bed reactor. (II) is used in Na form. Regeneration is effected with a soln contg. NaCl and NaOH. |
