Device for improving the combustion of a fuel, in furnaces and boilers, by decreasing, in the exhaust gases released to the atmosphere, the proportion of polluting elements. The invention consists of a primary, variable-geometry hearth, introduced into the original hearth of a furnace or a boiler, to increase the combustion yield by improving the radiation effects on the flame, hence by increasing the temperature at its periphery, in particular when the volume of the flame is relatively low with respect to that of the original hearth. The device consists of radiative movable panels 1 introduced into the original hearth 3 to surround the flame 2 and whose axial displacements with respect to the flame 2 are manually or automatically slaved to the power variations in the burner. In the automatic version, the displacements of the radiative movable panels 1 are ensured by jacks 4 connected to their control members 5, themselves slaved to the device 6 for regulating the power of the burner. <IMAGE>
