The invention relates to a method and to the associated apparatus for indicating the wear of hydraulic systems. These have a closed working circuit (1) which is equipped with a fluid pump (2) and a fluid motor (3), to which a constant volume of fluid is continuously fed and from which a corresponding volume of fluid is withdrawn. To detect the wear, the invention proposes that the volume of fluid fed and withdrawn from the working circuit (1) be continuously measured, the difference in the measured value of the two volumes be indicated and - since this indicates excessive leakage losses - that this difference be used to trigger a signal when a critical value is reached. <IMAGE>
