The free pivotability of the lens in conjunction with retention of the basic set-up of the entire viewer and of the position of the operator is achieved in the case of two beam paths fed to a binocular tube (body) due to the fact that - the beam paths are recombined by means of a first optical system into a first common axis of rotation, the rotation about the first axis of rotation being realised by rotating the first optical system, - a second optical system is provided for recombining the beam paths into a second common axis of rotation, which encloses an angle, preferably 90 DEG , with the first axis of rotation, the rotation being realised about the second axis of rotation by rotating the second optical system, - a device for automatic image erection is provided in each beam path, - the first and second optical systems for rotating about the first and second axes of rotation are coupled to one another and to the device for image erection, at least the devices for image erection being connected to a transmission arrangement. <IMAGE>
