Steering aid for motor vehicles

In a steering aid for motor vehicles, having a drive assembly which assists the manual steering and acts on a linkage component, which influences the steering lock, in a direction corresponding to the manual steering, the drive assembly can be switched on by a speed-dependent switching device only at low travel speeds and can be switched off when a specific travel speed is exceeded. The drive assembly is connected directly to the steering column or a shaft of the steering gear and is arranged coaxially to the respective shaft. The switching on and off of the drive assembly can be controlled as a function of the torque which is applied manually to the steering wheel. The advantages of a steering aid of this kind consist in the space-saving arrangement and cost-saving design (few transmission components) of the drive assembly. In addition, a servosteering device of this kind is characterised by only low energy consumption.
