In a method for heating a liquid by means of solar energy, the liquid flowing in a flow channel is heated by means of large-surface fixed collectors which cover virtually completely the surface of the flow channel and which float on the liquid and are partially submerged therein. The solar energy is in this case absorbed in the inside of the collector which is designed as a hollow body and transmitted to the liquid via the bottom surface of the collector which is made of a metal with good heat-conducting properties.
