<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled cell enabling to a high speed response and having a memory effect by only orientating a molecule at surroundings of the display part of the substrate (an electric field controlling area of the liquid crystal). CONSTITUTION:The substrates 1, 1 comprise electrodes 2, 2 and oriented film 3, 3 respectively and interpose the ferroelectricitic liquid crystal 4 there-between. The substrates 1, 1 are prepared by coating a polyimide film on the glass plate having the transparent electrodes 2, 2 respectively and then by drying them followed by rubbing them at one direction. At this time, the display part of said substrate is masked so as not to be rubbed whereby the oriented film 3, 3 in which the oriented treatment are only effected at the surroundings of the display part of said substrate are obtd. Thus, the obtd. two sheets of the substrates 1, 1 are countered in such a way that the rubbing directions of the substrates are in an opposite direction each other. In this manner, as a force of holding a direction of a molecule in the display part of the substrate depends to the molecular force itself and the intermolecular force, the memory is displayed in the each directions of the molecule as it is, without returning to its original direction, even if the electric field is removed.</p> |
