MANUFACTURE OF THERMAL CELL

PURPOSE:To facilitate welding and prevent any defective welding by placing soft heat insulators between a battery case and a cellular array and placing a strong heat-resistant thin plate between the battery case and the upper heat insulator to apply pressure to the cellular array. CONSTITUTION:A positive and a negative current collector plate 4 and 5 are placed on the upper and the lower surfaces of a cellular array and soft heat insulators 6 are placed on the plates 4 and 5. Next, the thus formed body is inserted into a battery case 7 in a horizontal direction or in a direction at an angle of 90 deg. from the stacking direction. After that, a strong heat-resistant thin plate 8 is placed between the battery case 7 and the upper soft heat insulator 6 in order to apply vertical pressure to the cellular array. By the means mentioned above, it is possible to facilitate welding and prevent defective welding because it is not necessary to apply pressure in the stacking direction through a sealing plate during its welding.
