PURPOSE:To replace a line including errors with binary picture data on a line right before the line including errors with a high correlation and to display the replaced line by decoding binary picture data through the use of two line memories. CONSTITUTION:A decoding control circuit 21 decodes incoming code data, and supplies the decoded binary picture information to the line memory 29 through a switch 22. Simultaneously an address control circuit 23 supplies a write address to the line memory 29 through a switch 25, and the binary picture data on the line concerned is written in the line memory 29. Upon the completion of decoding each line, the decoding control circuit 21 outputs a switching control signal. If an error occurs at the time of decoding the circuit 21 never outputs the switching control signal. Accordingly the switches 22 and 25 28 are not changed over, and picture data on the previous line is again written in the line memory 29. The same data is read out of the line memory 30 and outputted to an output terminal 31.
