<p>Liquids such as oil are transported over water by means of floating cylindrical tanks, which are towed in a line one behind the other. Each tank is constructed from a tubular chamber of thin laminated polyethylene which is enclosed in a protective envelope made from an elastic material. In order to attach a towing cable each end of the tank is sealed by a circular plate and a gasket which clamp the envelope and the lining together with the aid of a clamping ring. A cable connects the sealing plates at the opposite ends of each tank.</p> |
