PURPOSE:The titled resin having a markedly decreased hygroscopicity without detriment to the excellent properties inherent in a methacrylate resin, comprising a fluoroalkyl methacrylate, methyl methacrylate and a monomer copolymerizable therewith. CONSTITUTION:The titled resin comprising (A) 5-95wt% fluoroalkyl methacrylate (e.g., 1,1-dimethyl-2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl methacrylate), (B) 95-5wt% methyl metacrylate, and (C) 0.5-30wt% other monomers copolymerizable with both of components A and B (e.g., methyl acrylate). Component A decreases the hygroscopicity of the polymer and component B imparts moldability thereto, while component C improves its thermal decomposition resistance during high- temperature molding and at the same time modifies its hygroscopicity and heat resistance. Therefore, the hygroscopicity, in which a conventional methacrylic resin is not satisfactory, can be markedly decreased while the transparency, weather resistance, mechanical properties, moldability, etc., inherent in a methacrylate resin can be retained. |
