An arithmetic unit processes an item of data according to an instruction. Another arithmetic unit (14) processes several items of data according to an instruction. An instruction control unit (15) distributes corresp. instruction groups to respective arithmetic units. A main memory (12) exchanges data with the instruction control unit (15) and both arithmetic units. A group of instructions is restricted by the order of priority w.r.t. the execution sequence. This group is synchronized by specially inserting a synchronisation instruction (WAIT). It is also possible to divide the groups into a group of instructions to be serially processed and a group capable of being parallel-processed by inserting a serialisation-start instruction (POST) and a serialisation-release instruction (SUB-WAIT).
