PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material of resin, solvent or raw material of pharmaceuticals, etc., economically on an industrial scale at a low cost, by using an easily producible alkoxypropyl alcohol as a raw material and reacting the material with thionyl chloride in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective alkoxypropyl chloride of formula II can be produced by reacting the alkoxypropyl alcohol of formula I (R is lower alkyl) with thionyl chloride in the presence of a catalyst such as dimethylaniline, pyridine, triethylamine, etc. The alkoxypropyl alcohol is produced easily e.g. by the monoalkylation reaction of propylene glycol with a lower alkyl halide. EFFECT:The objective compound can be produced in high yield and purity. |
