The provision of an all-round closed annular cooling oil chamber (5), provided only with inlets and outlets, in the cylinder head in the area behind the piston ring grooves is known. In a forged piston head, this cooling oil chamber (5) is created on the basis of a preforged part in which the annular section (2) is folded out of the piston head (1) plane in the forging process into the required position on the finished piston and in which an annular flange (4) or parts forming this in the final position are already formed on the annular section (2) in its initial position as lower wall end of the cooling oil chamber (5). In the initial form, that is prior to the folding by forging, the annular flange (4) takes the form of individual prongs, which on completion of the deformation bear on one another to form a closed wall. <IMAGE>
