PURPOSE:To obtain a high strength card clothing wire having high wear resistance by hardening and tempering a carbon steel wire contg. a specified amount of carbon so as to provide specified Vickers hardness and tensile strength. CONSTITUTION:A carbon steel wire rod contg. >=0.5wt% carbon is drawn and the resulting carbon steel wire having the required cross-sectional shape is oil-hardened at about 800 deg.C hardening temp. and tempered at about 320 deg.C tempering temp. to obtain a card clothing wire having >=700 Vickers hardness, >=5% elongation and >=230kg/mm<2> tensile strength. Since the card clothing wire has a higher softening point than a conventional wire, it does not rise and can maintain satisfactory carding action for a long period. |
