PURPOSE:To remove a signalless recording part immediately after the switching of a tape traveling direction by switching the tape traveling direction and releasing auto-reck muting operation when an reader tape part is detected during the auto-reck muting operation. CONSTITUTION:When a reader tape detecting means 12 detects a reader tape during the auto-reck muting operation of a mechanism, a reverse operation command means 13 sends a command for switching the tape traveling direction to a mechanism driving means 11 to switch the tape traveling direction. On the other hand, an auto-reck muting operation releasing command means 17 commands an auto-reck muting operation command output means 15 to release the auto-reck muting operation on the basis of the output of the means 12. A mechanism driving control means 11 controls a mechanism at the temporary stop status of recording when a command from the means 15 is interrupted. Consequently, a trouble requiring time until the output of a reproduced sound at the time of reproducing from the leading and of a tape is removed.
