PURPOSE:To enable enhancement of sensitivity and contrast and to obtain an image high in quality by incorporating flat silver halide grains specified in grain diameter and a specified compd. in an emulsion layer. CONSTITUTION:At least one emulsion layer contains flat silver halide grains each having grain diameter as large as >=5 times the thickness and this layer or another constituent layer contains a compd. represented by the formula in which R is 1-6C alkyl, and M is H, NH4, or an alkali metal. This compd. is preferably, added in the form of an aq. soln. optionally contg. HCl, or a methanol soln. to the photographic emulsion, or a hydrophilic colloidal soln. for forming a constituent layer other than the emulsion layer, such as an upper coat layer, filter layer, interlayer, or a layer adjacent to the emulsion layer contg. the flat silver halide grains. The use of the flat silver halide grains and said compd. permits the obtained photosensitive material to enhance sensitivity and contrast, and to be favorably used for an X-ray sensitive material, a lithographic photosensitive material, a black-and-white photosensitive printing paper, etc.. |
