PURPOSE:To industrially and advantageously obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for medicines, agricultural chemicals, etc., in good yield as a whole without forming unnecessary isomers, by hydrolyzing a novel 5,8- dichromone. CONSTITUTION:A novel substance expressed by formula I (R<1> is H or OH; R<2> is H or alkoxycarbonyl, provided that at least one of R<1> and R<2> is H), e.g. 5,8-dichromone expressed by formula Ia, is hydrolyzed by the conventional method to advantageously obtain 3,6-dichloro-2-hydroxyacetophenone. The above- mentioned novel substance can be produced from a compound expressed by formula II, and for example, the above-mentioned exemplified compound can be produced by passing through compound expressed by formulae III-IV or further a compound expressed by formula V in 3-4 steps or passing through a compound expressed by formula VI (R is alkyl) in 2 steps. |
